Surprise leaps up in my understanding.
Surprise leaps up in my understanding. Who are we, truly? For I grew up raising my spirit, sustained by an inviolable faith in humanity. I rested the integrity of my being against a wall I believed was solid. We are light; what evil could ever enter our hearts?
Then I see my brothers falling into vain temptations, burning in furnaces of thoughtless revenge and betraying the high values that forged them as sacred beings. I see wars, hungers and selfishness. I see a void fleeing from everything, a darkness afraid its falseness will be found out.
I see myself, offended by the evils of the world while I too hate it. I see myself sunk in pointing fingers while I cultivate a beam in my own eye. I see the hole within that urges me to escape. Then I see who I am.
And in my understanding, wonder settles. We are no more and no less than the pure truth. Light and darkness are only a means we use to observe. Here a full center that does not identify with fear melts into silent action. Everything is so light in so much eternity. Everything is already forgiven.
