Students of the Instant

Who governs me?

Wandering I go, living like a brute.

The small hours are confused, I think of nothing.

I have so much that I never did a thing.

Who moves my footsteps?

Fall after fall, folly after folly.

React, individual!

I slap myself to wake up.

The world is robbing me of what is not mine.

Act, magical being of life!

From within, the individual changes.

When I change, the world changes.

I govern the world with my gaze.

Just as I look without governing my gaze, so am I governed.

But I govern my gaze.

Who would dare to govern me?
