This Human Being That We Are

The human being is the biological incarnation of an angel who came down to the world with a specific mission: to rescue the dark forces from the darkness.

Our mother earth received into her sacred womb an animal species that soon stood out for being extremely vulnerable to the capricious tides of unconsciousness.

Beneath our feet, earth and water move unsuspected, while the fire of the sun and the winds transform the world at every instant, a world of unsurpassable architectural wonder, full of vibrant life, sparkling peace and colors beyond compare.

Yet the demented innocence we were born with drew us to the most dangerous ravines and led us into the claws of the foulest infernal beasts. By eating of the fruit of sin, we reconfirmed our will to sink into the earthly Hades.

What are we doing here? What do we gain by suffering so cruelly in our lives?

Precisely this: we gain the experience of suffering. By living each of these dark forces, with all their wickedness and torments, we are receiving them into the glory that we are. By allowing darkness into our experience of life, we are bringing the lantern to it. We are, then, lights in the night.

We are alchemists, by nature, by profession and by vocation.

Our work does not look easy. That is because, as we sink beneath the very forces we are saving, who we are is veiled from us by the forgetfulness of their shadow. No longer knowing ourselves, we begin to believe we are those forces. The fibers of darkness clinging to the depths of unconsciousness ask us to go deep into that forgetting so we can pull them out by the root. And the tool for this is belief.

But how do we transcend? How do we do it?

It's easy: by continuing what we are doing. We're on the right track. We are asleep in misery, and that is part of our trade. The process of feeling that zone of the universe is unfolding just as we planned it. We are living in the natural way of living where we are living. Even if we come to forget that all is well, all is still well.

The key to going on is feeling. Identifying each perception, not by learning it but by discerning. Discerning is the opposite of learning. While learning is storing the memory of a darkness in order to preset a protocol for dealing with it, discerning is surrendering completely to the faculty of our experience to see firsthand what is happening here and now.

The rays of darkness spread, driven by the vital force we ourselves inject into them. And on their course they carry us along, exactly as far as we let ourselves be carried. Not one millimeter more.

Do we judge the criminals, the thieves, the wicked? Well, they have had the courage to let themselves be carried down to the roots of the swamp; they have taken on the hardest task a human being can have. Honored be they, and when they complete their assignment, their destiny will be to sit in peace.

To believe in the phenomena of the world is to cling to the falseness of their stories, forces that carry us away from the truth that is here. Through the act of discerning, we see. And so we stop believing, for once we see the evidence with our own eyes, we no longer need the prison of belief.

When we dismount from those rays of darkness, they can drag us no further, and they lose the momentum that darkens them. They too will be free.

What seems to keep us from feeling, what stands in the way of our wish to discern, is what we call fear. We are afraid to realize what we have gotten ourselves into. The cold paralyzes us. And yet fear is nothing more than one more factor in the experience we are plunged into. The struggle against death is that demon tormenting our life, but this too was foreseen. Everything that happens in this world is still only currents of thought passing before us. None of that darkness is real.

And it will happen naturally, as the process that serves as our destiny unfolds, that we begin to notice the light. A light that does not wait for us at the end of the tunnel, but has been here all along, and its shining has been forming the image of a tunnel in which we happen to be waking up to the light.

Soon, little by little, our feeling will grow finer. It is not something we can hurry, because no germination of life in nature accepts haste. Awakening will simply happen, here, now, just as we are living our life. It does not depend on us, because the "us" we say we are is not what we are; it points only to the darkness we are identified with. It depends on us, the us that we truly are. That I we never stop being is the universal divinity itself, which wished to be human in order to experience a humanity. That is what we are.

There is nothing to do but go on being human, go on being what we are.
