Many things happen.
Many things happen. Situations, incidents, accidents, circumstances, realities. What madness is this? So many problems overwhelm us. How to fix it? How to resolve it? How to reach a state where peace reigns?
One weakness blinds us: We take ourselves to be what we see.
And forgetting that everything passes, each thing crushes us. We magnify every event as if it were the whole world, forever. Scandal after scandal at the feet of a passing parade of vain illusions.
Yes, experience overwhelms us. Living wears us out. Hunger drives us to despair. Danger suffocates us.
But let us take this for certain: Nothing is for certain.
Every storm will turn to dust. Every hurricane is carried off by the wind. All that is mortal will die. Why be anguished? What is there, really, to fix? Let the dead bury their dead.
What stops us from going on, watching each thing the way the eye watches its tornado? What forces us to get involved, to become the victims of our own invention? What keeps us from standing firm and rising swiftly to fly?
