Students of the Instant

"Now I want to listen to myself," I said.

"Now I want to listen to myself," I said. And that was the first thing I heard.

I heard thousands of voices, some inviting, some frightening. Thoughts, lights, emotion. Madness, blunders, love. Multiple people who say they live inside me.

Then I heard the voice of each person, of each voice. I heard the voice that said I was that voice. And I heard the voice that believed it. I also heard how every voice, without exception, faded on the wind.

So I heard what lies behind each voice. And each voice lost my belief. And each voice lost its power. And my multiple people were heard just as they are, only thousands of voices resounding in the universe.

I heard that behind each voice there is pure silence. A silence that hears everything. A silence that is not quiet, but silent because everything that is not silent is heard by the silence.

And I heard the voice of silence say to me: "Can you hear yourself, you who hear everything?"
